well seeing as theyre different ideologies it's difficult for them to BOTH be the opposite!
atheism would directly oppose the existence of god (or deities etc) but not necessarily the beliefs or morals of a religion.
agnosticism really can't be the opposite of them as it's basically the 'undecided' area

Satanism, atleast defined by Anton Lavey, is not really a belif in a red man with horns. It is more of a life philosophy. A sort of secular humanist hedonism. It is actually similar to objectivism if you know what that is.

I actually like the church of satan. It has a lot of theater involved. If I had to pick a religion, I guess I'd be a satanist.

This is a gonna probably become a huge wall of text regarding Satanism as officially recognized (at least in the UK and US) and defined by Anton LaVey, so if you don't wanna see a huge pile of words, run now .

Satanism is a religion that revlolves around an idea sometimes know as autotheism, i.e. you are your own god. To a Satanist, such as myself, there is no-one more important than the self. This means that the greatest goal in life is to seek whatever will bring you the greatest possible ultimate pleasure. This differs from hedonism as hedonism follows the philosophy of "eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die", or rather, enjoy yourself know and forget about the consequences of what you do.

Despite the desire for ultimate pleasure, Satanists are often willing to sacrifice something in the short-term to gain greater pleasure over a longer-term basis. As pleasure is both subjective and unquantifiable, this decision on whether or not to sacrifice immediate pleasure is to be judged by the individual Satanist on a case-by-case basis.

As stated previously by Fickel_Pickel, Satanists do not believe in Satan, or in fact any superhuman creature. The term 'Satanism' is merely used because: 1. it shows that our beliefs are antithetical to Christianity, which in the Christian faith is equivocal to following Satan; and 2. It sounds dramtic .

Satanism is theatrical in its nature, not as an inherant part of the philosophy, but partially because it keeps away those who are not truly interested, and partly because revelling in our esoteria is good, harmless fun .

Just for clarity, there are no links between Wicca and Satanism, although I have heard many comments suggesting such a connection.

Okay, forgive me if I'm wrong, but.. Wicca does not condemn other religions at all.. Nor is it really polytheism.. since the different names you would call on, and, from what I read.. Simply difference faces of one singular being.. I believe the way it was describd was.. A diamond, split in two, with each half representing one side of the god/goddess equation. Both sides have limitless facets, each representing one "god" or name of power to call upon for whatever it is you are doing..


Of all of the religions out there.. Wicca definately catches my interest more than the others.. ritualism and spirituality are its core, and the governing rule seems to be that there is no one right path to follow. I like that a lot.

Forgive me if you are offended by what I am about to say (it's not like I care if you are) but I think christianity is funny! I'm agnostic and I find it funny that people put so much faith into a book, and the fact that people rise from the dead.

well I'm a wiccan, I guess I was never really a christian, like I never had faith in god. even though I had to go to church more then I liked, I never really had faith so I just didn't pay attention lol but I know this is bad but I've been raised around sooo many christians that are way into in (more then they should be) that I've thought of all christians as bad, but I don't know, like I know there are few who just go to church, and pray, they don't try to clense peoples souls so they don't go to hell. and those people (and yes I've seen many of those types) just bug me because they take it waaay too seriously.

stupid double post, but what I wanted to say is from what I learned from other posts on here, satanism doesn't sound that bad, but considering how many people in this world are christians, going up to a christian and saying "hey guess what I'm a satanist!" most likely wouldn't be the smartest idea but yeah being your own "god" doesn't sound like a bad thing, and its probably true. and I have a question for the wiccans reading this, in the wiccan law "what you send forth comes back to thee, so ever ye mind the law of 3" well why is it the law of three? like why is it what you send out comes back to you 2 fold? and does it come back if you do good, or bad, or both? lol sorry I don't really have a proper teacher, I've had to learn everything on my own which sucks lol
