Ah, this is my kind of thread...
I love opera...
A few of my favorites:
"Einsam in Truben Tagen", Elsa's aria from Lohengrin, Richard Wagner
The finale of Act I of La Forza Del Destino, Giuseppe Verdi
"Un di felice, eterea" and "Follie! Delirio vano e questo!", both from La Traviata, Giuseppe Verdi
"Una Furtiva Lagrima" from L'elisir d'amore, Gaetano Donizetti
"La altra notte in fondo al mar" from Mefistofele, Arrigo Boito
"C'est le devoir des jeunes filles" from La Belle Helene, Jacques Offenbach
"Se il mio nome spaer vol bramate" from The Barber of Seville, Gioachino Rossini
"J'ai perdu mon Eurydice" from Orphee et Eurydice, Christoph Gluck
And my all-time favorite aria...it's so beautiful, my eyes tear up when I hear it...
"Sebben, Crudele Mi Fai Languir", by Antonio Caldera... this is actually not opera, it's a lied, or art song, but, hey, I like it.
Another great lied is "Taubenpost" by Franz Schubert.
Some stuff that's a little heavier, that I adore, but would not recommend if you're just getting to opera or just sort of an aesthetic listener...if that makes sense? I'm not sure that it does, but anyway:
"Wo ist er, dessen Sundenbecher jetzt voll ist?" from Salome, by Richard Strauss
THE IMMOLATION SCENE, from Gotterdammerung, of Der Ring Des Nibelungen, Richard Wagner.
This last one is incredible. It's about the last 10 minutes of the opera, which is the last in a set of four, Der Ring Des Nibelungen.
Actually, basically the entire Ring cycle falls under this "Beautiful but very, massively, heavy" category.
Well, I hope I didn't go on too long and bore anyone...
if you really like opera, or listen to some of these and want to discuss it, please, please, please message me...
I don't get to talk about opera very often- there just aren't very many opera fans at my high school, you know?
Also- I tried not repeat any that have been listed before on this thread. (I may have on accident).
That's not to say, though, that I do not ADORE Maria Callas singing the Habernera.
'cause I do. Whole bunches.
