ImageThis year, the year of the spectacular at Bestival, on the Isle of Wight was the usual mix of exceptional music, great experiences, new friends and of course the amazing show of fancy dress!  Everywhere we looked, from the moment we arrived, the campsites, main stage and dance tents were full of glitter, sparkle and space themed spectacular outfits!  The GYC was covering the festival all weekend and we made sure we joined in with the fancy dress theme!   The highlight of the weekend was certainly the main stage performance by Florence and the Machine, a group now who can only climb higher and higher on the success of Florence Welch's exceptional voice.  However, other main stage performances by Lily Allen and Little Boots showed off the best of British and the best of a festival that is consistently showing off the best of music as curated by Rob da Bank.

Although there were some problems with sound that limited the power of MGMT's set, as the skies darkened the music only got louder and pulled large crowds to the likes of Kraftwerk on Saturday night.  The highly accomplished set which delivered classic Kraftwerk alongside newer releases all to the backdrop of stunning visuals was notable for the almost static delivery of the four members stood behind their laptops.

Sunday certainly provided a necessary calm with performances from the English National Ballet on the main stage, which slowly moved towards the closing sets of Fleet Foxes and Elbow, (via Bjorn Again, who united a large crowd in sing-a-long-a-ABBA!)  The beautifully performed set by Fleet Foxes really brought the large main stage crowd together and although there's was a set of understated perfection, the group had complete control of the atmosphere.

It is always a guarantee that Bestival will cater for all musical tastes and the Big Top saw exceptional sets by DJ Yoda and La Roux as well as this year's Mercury Award Winner Speech Debelle who showed exactly why she deserved this prestigious award.  However, the true success of this festival is the sheer passion of all those involved and the commitment to putting on such a big party.  The effort that goes into theming the site and then the amazing array of costumes and the inclusive atmosphere of all Bestival goers always ensures that there is plenty of fun to be had!
