From the acclaimed director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting and Elephant) comes the powerful and inspiring story of California's first openly gay elected official, Harvey Milk. With a powerhouse performance in the leading role, Sean Penn (Mystic River) and supporting cast Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) and James Franco (Spider-Man 1, 2 and 3) bring this unforgettable story to the big screen.Gay Rights Activist. Friend. Lover. Unifier. Politician. Fighter. Icon. Inspiration. Hero. His life changed history, and his courage changed lives. In 1977, Harvey Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming the first openly gay man to be voted into major public office in America. His victory was not just a victory for gay rights; he forged coalitions across the political spectrum. From senior citizens to union workers, Harvey Milk changed the very nature of what it means to be a fighter for human rights and became, before his untimely death in 1978, a hero for all Americans.

That one film brought hope to the people of the Gay community, it brought the presence of Harvey Milk. Some would say Harvey was the Gay Martin Luther King, and mostly because they went through common things, such as riots, and the main idea that there were both assassinated 10 years after each other. Harvey Milk, is a great Icon - and he should be even printed in the Encyclopedias. Registered 27-03-2009 16:25 i loved the movie but it definitely was played out more as a movie than an actual representation of what Milk has done for the gay community. Registered 26-03-2009 00:33 Just another sad case of liberal moral relativity in our previously great American CULTURE. Registered 23-03-2009 21:13 This film is great. I think that homophobia should be tackled much more seriousley. This film is a role model for all gays no matter what age. Its great Registered 16-03-2009 03:34 This movie was amazing, it shows what gay men, teens, and children are going through, what they will eventually go through. I made my mother, father, and grandmother, who are all homophobic, watch this, at the end of the movie all I got was ' I'm sorry if I have ever said or done anything to hurt you Will.' This movie can help so many children or gay youth in these situations. This movie isn't just for gays, it is also for heterosexual and closed minded people too. This will open there minds and tell them, show them what you, me and every other Gay individual has to go through on a day-to-day basest. Watching this movie will bring tears to your eyes and regret if you have ever told someone being gay is wrong, we know its not wrong but as long as you know... we'll be fine. Go out and buy this movie, you ONT regret doing so... Registered 04-03-2009 04:24 In simple explanation, this film was not about gay rights. It wasn't about furthering an agenda or promoting and ideal. It tells the story of every person that is harmed by the norm of society. Displayed in a tear-jerking testimony, it is only one story of how each of us must change ourselves to be accepted in society. It cleverly makes ask a question. Why do we have to change ourselves to be accepted? There are 300 hundred million people in America and none of us think alike. Each and everyone of us has a devine right to live in a world that does not try to kill our spirit. No matter who you are you deserve to be whoever you ought to be. Sadly there are very few stories about people like Harvey Milk. Perhaps if each of us had the same will and determination as him then this world would be almost of a fairytale. I think the story reaches out and makes you realize that we all have little bit of Milk in us. With Milk, we will grow to be strong and true. Labels were made for products and packages. Not for humanity. I hope that none of you agree with me because this is my opinion. You all have a different opinion because you are all different people. That's the most beautiful thing about us. That we are all so fantastically diverse and unique. Registered 03-02-2009 20:04 31-01-2009 01:56 I watched this movie about 4 times and every time it brings me to tears. His message was extremely powerful: fight for what you want in life. He was exemplary in his actions and politics. He was a man who fought for the recognition of the LGBT community as human beings, and not freaks or a punishment from god. He showed that it was possible to fight for our right as human beings, which to some are even denied. Harvey Milk inspired me. I hope you all find it as an encouraging movie. Registered 30-01-2009 07:16 It's a well-made piece of film, and it's doubtless much better than plenty of other stuff out at the moment, but it's too long. It knows how to tell one part of the story quite well, but just keeps telling it. Interestingly, a friend also pointed out to me that the film rather glossed over the fact that Milk kept sleeping with a large number of his 'recruits' (hence why his partner left him...). It was also reluctant to dwell on the fact that he shamelessly Gerrymandered his district... Still, that's kind of nitpicking. It's a good piece of work. Registered 26-01-2009 21:48 This was an incredible film, one of the best I've ever seen. It was really powerful, and everybody should really really watch it (: Registered 25-01-2009 03:38 Milk was absolutely amazing! Every GLBTQ person should see this film as it gives the historical context of the gay rights movement in America. Harvey Milk was a gay rights martyr and should never be forgotten! Registered 24-01-2009 22:04 This film is going to be great! Hopefully it will inspire others to at least try and look at us in a different light! ![]() Registered Powered by AkoComment Tweaked Special Edition v.1.4.6 |
