Good chest! This section aims to cover the essential exercises to work the chest and is targeted for those without home weights. It offers advice for any fitness level and a variety of methods, so there is bound to be one to suit you!

The press-up is the leading exercise to work the chest and can be easily tweaked to make it more or less challenging depending on your fitness level. The most effective way to exercise is to use the 'matrix' method. This involves doing the full range of movement for the exercise and then 2 sets of half the movement, this will become much clearer later! For those who don't know what a press-up is, (do they exist!?) here is a 4 step guide:

Place your hands facing forwards, shoulder width apart, under you shoulders. Keep your upper body and your legs straight.

Bend your arms to a 90o angle keeping the rest of your body straight and breathing in.

Return your body to the original position breathing out on the way.

Repeat steps 2 + 3.

If you need more of a challenge than the normal press-up, then there are many variations to make it more challenging.

Firstly, as I said earlier the 'matrix' method is very effective. To do this method, do a full set of press-ups and at the end return to the original position and bend your arms half the distance (from 0o to 45o) for the same number of repetitions. Then do another set of half the movement this time going from the half the distance to the full distance, (45o to 90o).

Secondly, try raising your legs onto something higher such as a chair or your bed.

Thirdly, as this exercises the shoulders and arms you can focus it to the chest by placing your hands further apart.

Alternatively if you need something less challenging you can do the half press-up this is the same movement as the normal press-up except you keep your knees on the floor.

Make sure that after all these exercises you stretch to avoid injury!

lol this is why so many people louse up their backs! when you do a pressup, probably the most important thing is to set you shoulders first. this is done by tensing the muscles at the bottom of your shoulder blades, and keeping them tensed throughout all of the pressups. (This should mean that the blades stay fairly flush to your back), otherwise u can work the wrong muscle ranges, nd as i say; get back problems

Ok!
So I understand some of you are having difficulty understanding the text...

I do apologise for that and I would like to put pictures up of what you are meant to do but they'd have to be of me and well I'm a little selfconscious... SO! Solutions are PM me and I'll try and clear things up for you.

Also to reinforce what Tamakachi said, swimming is a very good exercise that I would thoroughly reccommend especially if you are looking to lose weight!

Hope all this helps!

ummm..
has anyone actually tried maybe getting some light weights and doing some chest flys or somethin.. or hey.. push ups work to, and to actually target your chest while doing a push up get a chair that dosn't have arms..like a dinning room chair or somethin, and then place your hands on the front of the seat and get into the push-up postition.. and do slow, steady push ups..

Swim
If you really want to get a great chest take up swimming. You can start by just doing a couple of laps at your local pool every week and work your way up. It is not only great for your chest but also your shoulders ,back, arms and legs.

Maybe...
it depends over how long and how vigorously/effectively you exercise. Exercises like this without weights will not be as effective as those with weights.
