ImageHere at the GYC we dream of camping in a field, straw hat on head, glow sticks on wrist whilst dancing along to the best live music on offer.  Where can we realise these dreams  of ours though, we hear you ask?  That's right, at the many music festivals that  over the last few years have become the place to be every summer!  From the infamous mud of Glastonbury to the Rock credentials of Reading and Leeds, all the way through to the cool and alternative Bestival on the Isle of Wight, music festivals provide the perfect opportunity to get down and dirty and appreciate music as it should be heard, live!

This summer we shall not be left out and plan to bring you all the news from the best, most inclusive music festivals showcasing the best in live music from all genres and styles.  We shall have our GYC reporters on the ground reporting on the festivities, reviewing just how easy it is to pack all those essentials into a carrier bag and the many uses of wet wipes!  As well as of course reviewing the exciting music that these festivals are planned around, we plan on dancing to, soaking up and hanging out with the coolest bands and hot young things all in the name of the GYC, so keep an eye on the site, polish those wellies and join us on the campsite!

For now though please read on and learn of some of the exciting festivals planned in the UK this summer.  Also keep an eye on the site for updates and new additions to our festival planner!

Field Day

When: Saturday, 11th August 2007

Where: Victoria Park, East London

Image

Field Day is a brand new summer event bringing together the cream of London’s alternative concert and club promoters to the East End’s greenest of gardens Victoria Park.

Expect a day of incredible music, dancing and maximum hoopla set in London’s heartland. Music is the main driver but It will have all the charm of a village fete and if you don’t even catch a band you would still have a great time.

New additions to the line up include Justice who will be giving Field Day their unique twist as they play their first ever London live gig, expect a massive glowing Crucifix and other special effects and also getting into the swing of things it will the Mystery Jets as they come out of the studio where they have been recording their album with Erol Alkan to play a mix of old classics alongside some new material and Matthew Dear who will be performing for the first time ever in London a live set with a full band

The hottest line up of bands include Scotland’s freshest talent-1990’s, The Aliens, the ever foot stomping Erol Alkan and Jo Jo De Freq. The legend that is Andrew Weatherall will also be performing alongside a sizzling summer line up that includes Metronomy, Foals and Bat For Lashes amongst others. Critically acclaimed post-rock outfit Fridge will be playing their first live gig for 6 years featuring the formidable Four Tet and Adem (who also both play live) who will make a rare outing to deliver a set of new material from their forthcoming album, alongside some older tracks.

Expect this boutique, intimate event –with a capacity of 5000 - to have the atmosphere of a psychedelic village fete, with a ceiledh, bunting, hay bales, hog roasts and Tombola as well as the four main music stages, and expect eccentric, fun East End turns from Victoria Parks' band stand.
