ImageHere at the GYC we are committed to representing all of gay youth and aim to provide informed and diverse comment from all walks of life.  This means that we take your comments and opinions very seriously and love to hear from you with ideas of what you think should be included on the site.  Throughout October we are hoping to encourage our members to submit content of any kind for publication on the website.  Whether you are a budding journalist or film critic or simply feel that your voice needs to be heard then we want your input! The call for content is open to all of our members, (don’t worry if you haven’t already signed up, it’s really simple and will only take a moment of your time! Just follow the links on this page) and will run throughout the whole of October.  Diversity is our goal here and so there are no limits to what you can submit but as a starting point here are some areas we are keen to develop:

  • Your personal story of coming out and especially any challenges you may have faced and then how you have overcome these
  • Criticism on how gay characters are represented in the media.  So if you see a play or a film and think that everyone on this site should know about it send us a review!
  • Your response to developments in society surrounding gay politics.  Don’t worry we’re not looking for political commentary, your own personal take on Gay rights would mean a lot and probably speak louder than all of the analysis by political critics!

Your content should not exceed more than 800 words and may be edited for the purposes of making it accessible to all of our membership.  Once we have had a chance to read through everything keep an eye on the site and you will see the published results over the weeks after the closing date.

Those items that we feel have scope may even be developed into a regular feature or we may ask you if you would like to contribute more to the site.  Gay youth is of course the way forward and we here at the GYC truly respect our members and their opinions.  So, if you have something to say, then get writing and send it in!

All submissions should be sent to

From all of us at the GYC, happy writing!

Website is too slow. . .
Hey,
I LOVE your site. I love the fact that the profiles and message boards are actually screened, but I have some suggestions:
1) The website moves too slow. I have a HIGH SPPED connection, but your website moves like a site on dial-up. While some parts CAN be fast, places like profiles and messages can take a 3 minutes to load for me.
2) More searching tools are needed for personal: set up the search on personals like that on MySpace or Mogenic, where you can chose a city or zip code, instead of statewide and having to dig pages and pages of people that aren't near you!
3) I think you need to go beyond the information that VERY other gay teen site has. Have pages like Gay Music Groups and Gay Movies. . .that kinda thing. Have gay celebs do interviews.

A suggestion
i think that users should be able to browse memebers by age.... that would make the browsing process a lot easier for members thanks -dj-

just one my thoughts
I use the chat a lot. its coom to connect to other people from other places and just be ourselves. the only problem i have is that i cant do it so openly because im not out. and with a huge word like the gay youth corner i have to hide the window every time someone walks by. not really anyones problem but my own i guess but i felt i would share it cause some of your users arnt out yet.

other then that, i love the site.

Thank you!!!
I know that some people take it for granted having a forum and platform to communicate with others but where I'm at its not ok to be gay and its not as open as it is world wide. The stigma's and silence associated with homosexuality often leaves people with lives of solitude and despair. The GYC has helped me out loads and this new way of implementing interactivity is great. Thanks for the great work. You guys deserve an award or something but keeping thousands safe and alive is just that.....

Agreed!
I agree with Angelenore's suggestion... I love recommending music :eek

I think that this is definately a positive attempt to make everyone feel more included in the website, now to come up with anything to write is the only blockage :upset

Music?
I think their should be a chance for every memeber to write their own musical reviews (I don't mean musicals, as in an american development on Opera, although that could be included) but it would help people find out more about some diverse music. Hopefully it wouldn't be filled with 10,000 commentaries on the new Scissor Sisters disc...

This Is Good
I think that giving this opertunity to gay youth is a very good thing. I find more and more so that gay people and their stories are always unique and changing!! So being able to update a lot of these things can really reach out to more people who might have the same story!! Really good job guys!!

Plus TheGYC is a pop site. You're words will be seen by many thousands of people. We get well over 50,000 page views a day....

Can't Wait!
This is a great opportunity that many should take advantage of... I mean there are many ways we, Gay youth, can be heard, but sometimes never find the real motivation that starts us to voice what's really on our minds. I do hope there is a good turn out; and thanks for this. =)
