In 2004 it was Manchester Pride, last year it was Oslo pride, but this weekend sees europride in the UK for the famous London pride! Every year europride draws thousands of people from across europe - and the rest of the world - to the host city of the year, for one of the biggest pride events on the planet.
London, which is to the host the 2012 Olympic games, is preparing itself for it's 35th pride event. This year is an important one - a landmark year for gay and lesbian people in the UK - as it saw the introduction of Civil Partnerships, giving homosexual couples an official legal status. Much still needs to be done and London pride "is committed to tackling issues including bullying, discrimination and homophobic abuse".
The festival runs from the 17th to the 30th of June and includes hundreds of events, but most importantly europride day (Saturday the 1st of July) which features the Pride Parade traveling from Marble Arch to Westminster, a rally in Trafalger square with speakers such as Ian McKellen, a cabaret and - of course - a party in London's Soho. TheGYC will be coverings this year's europride London and we hope that you will join us. For more information please visit some of these sites: |
