Advice & information - Gay Family Stories
Written by Sourced from gayfamilysupport.com
ImageWe have three sons, two of whom are homosexuals.
When our eldest son was 18, he told us he was gay. My husband's response was simple: "Are you sure?".

I, on the other hand, had a great sense of guilt and failure, wondering where we had gone wrong. We have always been a close and loving family, and I worried whether the relationship with our eldest son would suffer as a result of his homosexuality.

I also had a great concern for his future happiness and well-being, as did my husband. I soon realized that our son was the same person I had always known and loved, but through his honesty I now knew more about him.

But understanding came later, after our son directed us to Parents of Gays. I no longer felt alone; new windows of understanding were opened by asking questions, listening and reading.
It was a difficult but positive stage in my life, which took time and patience.

I am happy to say that today our family is as close as ever, but our relationship is more open and honest than before.

i told my friends i was gay on the 7th of February 2009. I told my parents roughly a week later, and we went for a walk, we discussed why i thought i am what i am, wether i was totally sure - as i am only 14 - and who i had told. after that everything was normal but i still didn't feel great like i had heard other people feel like after they had come out. But about 2 weeks later i had some of the people i never really spoken to in my year come up to me and chat to me about it and asked if i was ok. A couple of days later they stood up for me once one of their idiotic and homophobic friends said "watch out guys put a cork up your ass". I now have more friends than ever and have never been closer to my family.

:)
I want to tell you that your story made me cry. I am in college and I still haven't told my parents that I'm gay. My older brother told my parents he was gay when he turned 18 and I saw how it destroyed them. I am too afraid to hurt them more. Dad will have a heart attack. I can't do it to them. I wish I had you for parents.

well i think it is very wrong to wonder "where you went wrong" because homosexuality is in his dna. they were always going to be gay and it had nothing to do with there upbringing. well dont for loving them to bits tho :]

my mother has had four boys and three of us are gay. but my mother is proud that she has four boys who are able to open about the way they want to live, and are strong enough to be able to deal with something very difficult.

wow i wish many parents are like you, because there are parents who have gay children who can't accept who their children really were and even attempting to remove their gay children from their family.
