Once you've found out there are gay people out there, and plenty of them at that, you might well wonder: what do they actually do? What is gay sex?

In a nutshell, it's any sort of sexual activity between two members of the same sex. Obviously, this can be unconventional: the combinations are not quite the same. Instead of a penis and vagina, there are two penises or two vaginas. Well, reproduction is not going to happen, but there are plenty of things gay people can do together to express their love and feel pleasure.

You're probably not the only gay in the village. It seems to be the case that around one in twenty to thirty people are gay. That doesn't mean you're going to fancy the boy in 9E just because he's gay too, but it can be nice to know he's there!

Finding other gay people can depend on where you live. If you're in rural parts, it's not impossible, but can be harder to find other like-minded individuals. This is partly because the pressure not to reveal non-straight sexuality tends to be greater. It's also because there are fewer people around.

'You're soooo gay!'

In childhood, the term 'gay' is thrown around as a general insult - if something isn't cool, for example. Most of the time it doesn't mean you're homosexual, but it does show how as young innocents people try to be as 'normal' as possible. It doesn't mean you're gay if a few people are calling you that at school.

Saturday the fifteenth of October saw the brutal murder of Jody Dobrowski. It was made clear that despite all the recent advances in encouraging the acceptance of homosexuality, intolerance still breeds today.  Jody was twenty four years old and lived in London, he was respected by his friends and family and managed a successful bar.  Jody was also gay.  Police have arrested two men, now due to appear in court charged with murder.  Doesn’t this atrocity highlight how far gay men and women still need to go to truly feel safe in society?  Laws can be changed, but can prejudices ever be?
