Am I Coming On Too Strong? PDF Print E-mail

Rob's Column
Written by Rob Drummer
ImageWe are constantly chastised for falling too quickly in love, for getting too involved too soon and for expecting more from somebody who we have just met.  Why is it that two good friends of mine, upon announcing their engagement should be concerned that they shall be met with cynicism simply because they have been together for less than a year?  Why should we have to defend ourselves to those who deem us too needy, too keen or too interested and  if love is contagious, then are break ups infectious?

Tell The Truth, as if it were Lies PDF Print E-mail

Rob's Column
Written by Rob Drummer

ImageWe live in a world where we have come to expect the truth that we are lied to pretty regularly.  These lies range from those told in the school playground, or those that get us out of seeing a friend who we really don’t like anymore, all the way up to the lies told in the press and by the world’s governments.  However, in such a climate of lies do we accept the truth as something malleable, something to be manipulated in order to make life easier, more bearable?  Or rather, are the lies we are told simple tortures to our minds that have to work ever harder to rationalise our lives?  Relate this to relationships, whether they are friendships or romances and things get even more volatile, yet we must ask ourselves: in a dishonest world, is honesty the best policy?

LGBT Rights Are Human Rights Too PDF Print E-mail
User Rating: / 8
Rob's Column
Written by Rob Drummer

ImageHuman rights, we have all heard of them; however, few of us can recite them; perhaps find it hard even to utter a single one?  Yet, we hear the two words rather frequently.  What, then are our human rights and more importantly, as members of an extensive LGBT community how can we use these rights to command the respect of countries where being gay is regarded as immoral and illegal?  The International Bill of Human Rights was written after the end of the Second World War.  With the creation of an international code of conduct regarding the treatment of all humans it was believed by the member states of the United Nations (UN) that greater respect of human life could be encouraged after the awful persecution of the Jewish race by the Nazi regime.

Rob's Column

ImageIn our world of social pressures to settle down with, devote oneself to another person, how important to young gay individuals is monogamy?  This is something that I find myself returning too rather frequently, however, each time it is with something of a different perspective.  I shall be honest from the outset; I believe that commitment is totally important to all relationships and that as a gay man myself it is monogamy that motivates my relationship ambitions.  However, this is something of a long term goal and whilst being young is all about experiencing life totally, should we be disregarding serious commitment?
