Scenes Around the World

With popular destinations such as London, Manchester, Paris and New York as firm favourites amongst Gay, Bisexual and Lesbian tourists there is certainly a lot to be experienced from the global gay scene.  Here you will find reviews and holiday journals from GYC members across the world who have visited countries and delighted in the international gay scene.

If you have recently been abroard and can reccomend a bar or a club or even write on the benefits of a City from a gay perspective then get in touch and we shall gladly publish your critiques!

ImageThis week, Pride London's Youth @ Pride group have sent an open letter to the ten uniformed UK youth services inviting them to take part in the parade at London Pride next month.  They are hoping that by marching alongside the many LGBT organisations and individuals they will show their commitment to combating homophobia and transphobia.

This year has seen an exciting new exhibition which focusses on one of the most fascinating gay icons of all time: Kylie Minogue.  From the early days of playing Charlene in Neighbours (1988) through to her most recent incarnations on her Homecoming tour, Kylie has always been not only an icon of style, popular culture and music but also a true gay icon.  The Kylie exhibition which is currently at the V&A Museum in London shall be moving up north and feature largely in the Manchester Pride festivities.  Running from the 30th of June to the 2nd of September, you will have plenty of time to head along to this free exhibition to see over 200 objects relating to Kylie's performing career.  What's more is that as part of the Big Weekend which runs from the 24th to the 27th of August, there will be a host of special talks focusing on Kylie's reign as popular gay icon.

ImageAs we fast approach the height of summer it comes to that time of year again in the LGBT calendar when we get to lose those tops, slap on the sparkle, raise a rainbow flag and join in with all the fun of Gay Pride!  In most major cities across the world there will be Pride events throughout the year and nowhere is this more true than in the UK.  What with the success of Europride in London last year and the ongoing success of Mardi Gras in Notting Hill not to mention Soho Pride as well, here in Britain we know how to put together a Pride event!  By far one of the most popular Pride destinations  in the UK though is Manchester and this year the GYC shall be there again to cover the event and party throughout the big weekend with all of the other revellers out for a good time!

ImageAmsterdam. A city of liberated social freedoms and relaxed attitudes towards drug use and sex is a popular destination for those seeking to experience a few days of uninhibited escape from the restraints of perhaps more conservative attitudes across the world.  The City itself is steeped in culture and has a vivid history and simply stunning scenery across the many interconnected canals that divide and enhance the picturesque streets of the Old Centre.  There is plenty to see and of course the history of the City with its part to play in the Second World War and the plight of Anne Frank.  However, Amsterdam like most European cities is also an incredible destination for gay men and women wishing to sample a different scene from that which they are used to.
