Ha ha - yes it would have been much easier to have the hands in a normal orientation - especially for him with those odd fingers!!! I just played them as seperate chords - who says you have to play it like the music says? Sod the composer!!!!!!
Messiaen is truly sexy - i first heard his organ music cos i was a chorister at Winchester Cathedral - but some of his orchestral works are phenomenal - the Turangalila's a laugh, wouldnt you say, and the Eclairs sur l'au dela are really thought provoking - im not sure whether id listen to much of his piano music, though it is good fun to play!!!
Have you heard much Phillip Glass? Akhnaten must be the most moving opera ever!!!

Yay - glad to see there are more discerning people out there!!!!!!! I love rachmaninov too!!! Its really funny listening to his own recordings of his piano concertos cos they were on LPs so had to be done in 3 minute chunks - the first movement of his third is like 1 and a half times the speed of what it should be - fun when he gets to the cadenza at the end!!!
Favourite classics??? hmmm - gotta be messiaen - just fits so snugly under the fingers - you played any?? Also Brahms' Two Rhapsodies - the B minor one is just soo much fun to play - especially when you're grumpy!!! Best to listen to??? Hmm - byrd/tallis/perhaps purcell - what about you??? Btw have you given the Csharp minor prelude (rach) a go - fun fun fun!!!
Get in touch!!!!
