Last week a spider made its web outside my window. Right where I crack it to let in air. A good spot for both of us since he catches the bugs that would normally fly in. Anyway, this spider is pretty bro. I caught a fly he missed in my place and put it in his web for him so we were pretty cool.
That is until the bee came.
I watched a bee fly into and seemingly tackle my innocent spider. He fell from his web, clutching to this alien invader and landed on my windowsill. I watched them engage in mortal combat, not knowing how to save my friend.
After some time I saw that my spider stood no chance. This bee was twice his size and despite my spiders valiant efforts, he was slowly being torn apart. I should have acted right then and there and crushed them both. Giving my friend a clean death and robbing this invader of his victory. But I did not. And now my spider is a mangled corpse.
The bee, I'm not sure what kind, seems to by dying now. Whether from a loss of its stinger (though I don't think predatory insects would so liberally use their last, suicidal line of defense) or from the venom or some other mortal wound given as a parting gift from my dead friend.
Just wanted to share that with you.
