It's a well-made piece of film, and it's doubtless much better than plenty of other stuff out at the moment, but it's too long. It knows how to tell one part of the story quite well, but just keeps telling it.
Interestingly, a friend also pointed out to me that the film rather glossed over the fact that Milk kept sleeping with a large number of his 'recruits' (hence why his partner left him...). It was also reluctant to dwell on the fact that he shamelessly Gerrymandered his district...
Still, that's kind of nitpicking. It's a good piece of work.
