Theorically a truth and a lie are sight points of life, like Mister Drewz said, a lie can be sometimes the safest bet, let's think that your life depends of telling a lie, in that case you would lie so you can keep your safety, BUT, those are just extreme situations, those doesn't appear in everybody life 
everyday, except if they are some kind of drug dealers, politicians, hitmans, spy's, or maybe in a little situation of a guy that want to steal something from you, in that case I would say that I would tell him a lie so I save my skin, always of course depends of the situation you're in and like a hundred of facts that could change your position or his position, anyway this explanation took too long he he. 
 
So, I was thinking, people like to lie cause is a better reality, we love to see heroes in the movies because we don't have one guy who knows martial arts and kick everybody ass without killing no one and saving the day, and nobody wants to be, or just simple when someone try to be gets killed, reality as a fact is a truth different to everybody, everybody have a different sight point, 
some people will follow their own truth and others act as masses following one's truth. Now to question what is truth?, ultimate truth doesn't exist, just the truth which the strongest one will tell, cause that's how it works, church works that way, they say that nobody ever is gay, that is not allow, there are no gay popes, whatever, they have the power, religion is one of the powers of the world, they can manipulate communications, they have money, and connections with governments, there you go, 4 powers, Church, Money, Politics, Communications, want some more?, of course, those who have power, will want more, let's say I’m the one who got all this powers, I will want more and of course to be preserved as long as I could as a legacy, what should i do?, find followers, masses, so in the end we live in a world in where dog eat dog like they say in big company's, anyhow, it depends on every person if they want to be honest or keep on lying just because it feels better, but I heard once ''KNOWLEDGE HURTS, BUT IGNORANCE IS DANGEROUS'' 
 
PS: I prefer to be honest, normally i don't need to lie so i just DWBH and chill.
