I went to Amsterdam with my fella for a couple of days late last year and it really was something different! Really enjoyed the cultural diffrences that they have over there and how free and liberal the country feels. We found it so easy to get about and the people over there friendly aswell. The canals and scenery were pretty amazing too, really romantic and getting about by tram was interesting too! We stayed in the Hem hotel cuz we are both students but the room was fab and we managed to get away for three days, B+B inc flights for £100! Bargin! 
 
A word of warning tho, you can get prayed upon by gypsises and the geneal homeless crowd over there, best thing to do is ignor them. One tramp threatened to stab us on the way out of a coffee house for not giving him money! 
 
Ah and thats another thing, make sure to visit the 'Bulldog' coffee house by the main tram station in Dam, best coffee house in the world, also 'wonder-bar' is the most comfortable place we found, full of shishas and also had two kittens in! The memories will be there forever!
