My dad went through this as well. All i can say is, if you and your wife aren't going to be completely comfortable around each other, it's not going to work as it'll affect ur kids too. My mum was unhappy for a few years and even though we didn't notice it, we all started to go off the rails a bit. Kids are annoyingly perceptive, even if they don't know it. Unfortunately, as there are kids involved, you need to think about what's best for them above anything else.
